How to Connect an Epson Printer to Wi-Fi

Method 1: Epson Smart Panel app (recommended)

Download Epson Smart Panel from the App Store or Google Play. Open it, tap the "+" or "Add Printer" option, and the app will search for nearby Epson printers over Wi-Fi. Select yours, follow the prompts to join your home network, and the app handles the handshake automatically. This works for effectively the entire current EcoTank, Expression, and WorkForce lineup, and it's the method Epson's own setup guides lead with for a reason — it avoids most of the manual-entry mistakes that trip people up on the printer's own keypad.

Method 2: Control panel setup (models with a screen)

On the printer itself, tap the Wi-Fi icon or open Settings → Wi-Fi/Network Settings → Wi-Fi Setup Wizard. Select your network name from the list, enter your password on the touch keyboard, and confirm. The screen will show "Connection Successful" along with the printer's new IP address once it's joined.

Method 3: WPS push-button

If your router has a physical WPS button, go to the printer's Wi-Fi settings and select WPS (Push Button), then press the button on your router within the time window shown (typically two minutes). This skips password entry entirely and is the fastest option when it's available.

Why the connection keeps failing

2.4GHz vs 5GHz mismatch. Most Epson printers only join 2.4GHz networks. If your router uses one combined network name for both bands, the printer may repeatedly try — and fail — to join the 5GHz side. Look in your router's settings for a way to temporarily separate the two bands, connect the printer, then combine them again if you prefer.

Printer too far from the router during setup. The initial handshake needs a stronger signal than ordinary printing does. If setup times out, temporarily move the printer closer to the router, complete setup, then relocate it.

Router security mode. Very old routers using WEP encryption instead of WPA2/WPA3 can cause repeated failures on newer Epson printers. If you're on an older router, check whether it supports WPA2 and switch to it — it's also simply more secure.

After it connects

Print a network status sheet from the same Wi-Fi menu to confirm the printer has a valid IP address. Then install the official Epson driver from Epson's support site, searching by your exact model number — this ensures you get the correct driver rather than a generic one.
