Before touching anything, look closely at what the touchscreen actually says. Lexmark's business-oriented models frequently identify the specific door — front, rear, or a particular paper tray — rather than a generic "door open" message. Checking the wrong door because you assumed it meant the front cover is the most common reason people can't clear this on the first try.
Once you know which one it means, open it completely and close it again with a deliberate, firm push until it latches. A door that's most of the way closed but not fully latched is the most common actual cause once you're checking the right one.
If the message points to a tray rather than a cover, pull that tray fully out, then reinsert it firmly until it seats flush with the printer body. A tray that's in but sitting slightly forward of its final position can trigger this exact message.
With the relevant door or tray open, look for anything blocking full closure — paper debris, packaging material, or a jammed sheet near the hinge or rail.
Turn the printer off, unplug it, wait about a minute, then power back on. This resets a sensor state that occasionally sticks even once the physical cause is already fixed.
A message that keeps returning for the exact same door or tray, even after confirming it's fully seated and clear of obstructions, points to that door's sensor switch — a genuine hardware issue on that one component, not something a reset or reseating will resolve. This is worth Lexmark support or a service call rather than continued troubleshooting.
