How to Scan on an Epson Printer, Set Up the Right Way

Scanning from your computer: install Epson Scan 2

Go to Epson's official support site, search your exact model, and download the full driver and utility package — Epson Scan 2 is included in this. Install it, then open it directly (Start menu on Windows, Applications on Mac). It should detect your Epson printer automatically over Wi-Fi or USB, whichever you're using.

Scanning from your phone or tablet: use Epson Smart Panel instead

Epson Smart Panel is a separate mobile app (iOS and Android) that turns your phone into a control center for setup, printing, and scanning — you don't need Epson Scan 2 installed anywhere for this to work. Install it from the App Store or Google Play, let it detect your printer on the same Wi-Fi network, and use its Scan tile directly. One thing worth knowing: Smart Panel only supports models on Epson's published supported-products list — if your specific model isn't listed, it won't be able to find or connect to it, and you'll need Epson Scan 2 on a computer instead.

Scanning a document, step by step (Epson Scan 2)

Place your document on the glass or load it into the automatic document feeder if your model has one. Open Epson Scan 2, choose your scan mode (Home mode is simpler; Professional mode gives more control over resolution and color), select the source, and click Preview to check the crop before running the full scan. Save as PDF for text documents, JPG for photos.

If Epson Scan 2 doesn't detect the printer

Confirm the printer and computer are on the same network. If it's a USB connection, try a different USB port and cable before assuming a software issue. Reinstalling the full driver and utility package (not just Epson Scan 2 alone) resolves most detection failures, since the two are meant to be installed together.
