Remember: Choose, Connect, Check

  1. Choose: match the exact printer model and the device you print from.
  2. Connect: Wi-Fi or Ethernet joins a supported printer to your local network; USB connects it directly to a computer.
  3. Check: select the printer and print one small page. Check scanning separately if you need it.

Choose your device

The setup steps are slightly different depending on the device you are using. Check the exact model first, then choose the device you will print from. Keep the model-specific instructions open if its buttons or prompts differ.

What is ij.start.canon?

ij.start.canon is Canon's setup route for compatible Canon inkjet printers. It is where you can start the model-specific setup process, download the software offered for your printer, and follow Canon's on-screen instructions.

JustFixPrinter does not replace Canon's software or instructions. We explain the process in simpler language so you know what should happen before you install anything.

If your model is not listed, use Canon U.S. model support. Different printer families may use different apps or installers.

About Canon and official Canon resources

Canon makes several printer families, including PIXMA, MAXIFY, MegaTank, imageCLASS, and other business and photo products. The exact setup process depends on the printer model and the device you are using.

JustFixPrinter is independent from Canon. We explain the setup in simple language, while official Canon pages handle software downloads, product support, warranty, registration, and Canon account tools.

Before you start

Set up a Canon printer from iPhone or iPad

  1. Connect the iPhone or iPad to your home Wi‑Fi.
  2. Open Safari and type ij.start.canon.
  3. Choose Set Up and search for the exact Canon printer model.
  4. For supported models, install and open the official Canon PRINT app.
  5. Tap the option to add or register the printer and follow the prompts.
  6. Choose your home Wi‑Fi network and enter the password when asked.
  7. Print one test page or photo.

If your model supports AirPrint, you can also print from iPhone or iPad when the printer and Apple device are on the same Wi‑Fi network.

Set up a Canon printer from Android

  1. Connect the Android phone or tablet to your home Wi‑Fi.
  2. Open ij.start.canon in the browser or use Canon's official app page.
  3. Install Canon PRINT when it is supported by your printer.
  4. Open the app and add/register the printer.
  5. Allow the nearby-device, Bluetooth, or location prompts if the setup process asks for them.
  6. Enter the Wi‑Fi password when asked, then wait until the printer shows ready.
  7. Print a small test page.

If Android cannot find the printer, move the phone and printer closer to the router, restart the printer, and try again. You can also use our mobile printing setup guide.

Set up a Canon printer on Windows

  1. Connect the computer to your home Wi‑Fi or plug in Ethernet.
  2. Open a browser and type ij.start.canon.
  3. Choose Set Up and enter the exact Canon printer model.
  4. Download the Canon setup software shown for your Windows version.
  5. Open the downloaded installer and follow the prompts.
  6. Select Wi‑Fi, USB, or Ethernet/network when the setup screen asks.
  7. Finish setup and print a test page.

If the installer stops or loops, use our printer driver will not install guide before downloading from a different website.

Set up a Canon printer on Mac

  1. Connect the Mac to the same Wi‑Fi network you want the printer to use.
  2. Type ij.start.canon in the browser and search your exact printer model.
  3. Check the software offered for your exact model and macOS version. If Canon recommends AirPrint, use that supported route instead of looking for an installer.
  4. If software is offered and needed, run its installer and follow the prompts.
  5. If needed, open System Settings → Printers & Scanners and add the printer there.
  6. Print one small page to confirm setup.

Set up a Canon printer on Chromebook

Chromebook setup depends on the Canon model. Start with the exact model instructions at Canon's official setup site. For supported printers, Chrome OS can add the printer through its built-in printer settings after the printer is connected to the same network.

  1. Connect the printer and Chromebook to the same network.
  2. Open Chromebook settings.
  3. Open the printer settings and choose the option to add a printer.
  4. Select the detected Canon printer when it appears.
  5. Print a small test page.

Set up a Canon printer on Linux

Linux setup depends on the distribution and exact Canon model. Start with Canon's model-specific downloads and manuals, then use your Linux printer settings to add the device and select the supported driver when available.

  1. Connect the printer to Wi‑Fi, Ethernet, or USB.
  2. Open your Linux printer settings.
  3. Add a printer and choose the detected Canon device.
  4. Select the recommended driver if your system asks.
  5. Print a test page.
Older devices, including BlackBerry

BlackBerry setup is a limited legacy case. Most current Canon mobile setup is focused on supported iPhone/iPad and Android devices. If the older device cannot add the printer directly, move the document to a supported phone or computer and print from there.

Wi‑Fi, USB, or Ethernet: which should you choose?

Wi‑Fi

Best when multiple phones or computers need to print. Keep the printer close to the router during setup.

USB

Best when one computer is near the printer or Wi‑Fi setup keeps failing. Plug in the cable when the setup process asks you to.

Ethernet

Best for supported office or network printers. Connect the cable to the router, then add the printer on the computer.

Official Canon PRINT app and setup page

For supported models, Canon PRINT can help with printer setup, printing, and scanning. Use the official Canon app page or your device's official app store. If you prefer a computer setup, use ij.start.canon and follow the model-specific instructions.

Where did setup stop?

The Canon website will not open

Check whether another website opens, then check the address is https://ij.start.canon/. Try another browser, or use Canon U.S. support to find your model. Resetting the printer will not fix an unavailable website.

My model is missing or the installer will not run

Match the full model name on its label, confirm your operating system and use the download offered by Canon. Some devices use built-in printing rather than an installer. See driver installation checks.

The app cannot find my printer

Check printer power, app compatibility and any requested local-network permission. For normal network printing, use the same local network and avoid an isolated guest network. If you changed routers, follow the exact model’s wireless setup instructions rather than a full factory reset. Open Canon Wi-Fi checks.

The printer is offline or nothing prints

Check the selected printer, print queue, supplies and displayed error. Follow the printer offline guide.

After setup finishes

Do not stop at the connected message. Print one small page and, for all-in-one printers, try one scan. This confirms the printer, software, app, and network are working together.

Frequently asked questions

Is ij.start.canon an official Canon setup address?

Yes. Canon directs customers who need help setting up compatible Canon inkjet printers to ij.start.canon. JustFixPrinter is independent and explains the steps in plain language.

Should I download Canon drivers from a random website?

No. Type ij.start.canon directly into the address bar and use Canon's official setup or support pages for your exact model.

Can I set up a Canon printer from my phone?

For supported models, yes. Canon PRINT can provide setup, printing, and scanning functions on supported mobile devices.

Can I set up a Canon printer without Wi‑Fi?

Many models support USB, while some network models support Ethernet. Use the connection method your exact printer supports.

Why does Canon PRINT not find my printer?

Common things to check are printer power, the correct Wi‑Fi network, distance from the router, and whether the printer is still configured for an old network.

What should I do after the printer connects?

Print one small test page. If the printer is an all-in-one model, also run one scan so you know both printing and scanning work.
